Today in Bali is the beginning of Galungan, one of the biggest celebrations of the year. Its Hindu origins celebrate the victory of good over evil, but in practice it honors the return of ancestral spirits.
For 10 days (and several additional days of preparation), offerings are made, temples flood with people to pray, and the island is beautifully decorated with penjor bamboo poles with offerings suspended at the end, which line the roads.
Especially during times like these, we feel so much gratitude for the intense spirituality of this island and the Balinese people. Happy Galungan!
