The first thing in the morning after leaving the Ibis Styles Hotel was to exchange their Canadian currency to Indonesian rupiah. Ten Canadian dollar is about one hundred thousand rupiah.

0:40 Their drive up north begun as they drove through the single-lane two-way streets of Bali. Views of daily life in Bali, mountains and rice fields.

1:23 It’s apparently a common practice for the locals in Bali to take group pictures together with tourists. They stopped at a restaurant called Pacung for lunch at 1:37, it has a great view of the Labhagga rice terraces. She had the chicken satay with peanut sauce and Nasi Goreng with fried egg and chicken satay (2:10)

2:27 They arrived at Bedugul, Bali. Istiana noticed many penis-shaped ornaments sold as souvenirs at the local market. Her dad bought one for the office. Kite-flying is a popular activity in Bali (3:03 ).

3:15 They arrived at Singaraja, her grandparent’s house. It’s over 120 years old and runs a long way back in the Sie Tjiok Kie (Istiana’s family Chinese name) family. Her grandparents hung up pictures of her and her cousins. She toured the rest of the house at 3:52. She also showed us the piano where she first learn to play the piano back in 2004 (4:17). The kitchen had an abundant of salak and banana – her favorite fruit (4:59). The tour ended at 5:51.

6:32 Istiana’s favorite fruit, the salak. It’s a hard fruit that looks like an armadillo with the skin of a snake. The inside resembles a giant garlic and there’s always 3 pieces within.

Preecha Lim

Hi !! I am new to YouTube and I recently made a short travel vlog and it would be great if you guys could come over and support ๐Ÿ™‚

Silvio Fontana

A fundamental mistake for those travelling to Bali – try speaking or greeting in traditional Balinese instead of Indonesian. Also traditional Balinese food instead of Indonesian food. Balinese staff will be so impressed with your efforts. They are slowly being forgotten.

Google UserX

5:48 That’s not guava tree, that’s rose apple/water apple tree. Indonesians call rose apple “jambu air” while guava “jambu batu”. Batu means rock, air means water. lol

Excellent video.
Just a quick clarification: what you called a guava is actually a wax Apple, also known as a jamrul or a Jambu air.

Delightful Travellers

You remind me so much of Kina Grannis!

But why they took a picture with strangers?? Just whyyy?

Loved the video. I am married to a woman from Jakarta, but live in Germany, and we visited Bali and had lunch at that place Pacung. Enjoyed the food, but did not have my picture taken with any Indonesians as I had one on my arm. My wife is half Chinese too. I got the best of two Worlds when I married her. I am American living and working in Germany. Your parents home was interesting. Did not know that such a modern kitchen existed in the homes. Shame that they do not use it, but I guess old habits are hard to break. The only thing about the home that I did not like was the location where you have to listen to that crap five times a day blaring out of that Mosque. I never have understood why Islam took such a foothold in Indonesia, as the mass murderer Mohammed lived in the Middle East. Look forward to more of your videos.

Sylvia Lee

Awesome video Istiana! I think it’s safe to say I’m a travel addict & when I’m not on the road myself I like to live vicariously through others haha, your video got the job done & definitely makes me want to visit! I know all the hard work that you put into filming & editing this video cause I just recently returned from a trip around Europe where I started making travel videos as well. Anyways I just wanted to stop by & say great work, keep making videos like this ๐Ÿ™‚
