Iโm so torn by this. On one hand itโs amazing to do a once in a life time experience and ride an elephant. I would go bananas if I could touch one. Theyโre my favorite animal. However, physically itโs traumatizing for their bodies to transport people. Theyโre backs and necks are not built to physically withstand the strain. They suffer from exhaustion, arthritis, foot injuries from standing on concrete and back injuries. They naturally donโt carry people. So in order to be made to do this they are usually captured as infants, taken from their mothers and broken into being made to do it by being starved and beaten. They develop post traumatic stress disorder because of this abuse/training and because theyโre naturally herd animals. Being separated from their families would naturally cause stress. Lastly, their life spans are shortened because of this laborious work.
