Its nice you tell the story about the miners. They only get paid 1.000 Idr for each kgs they got. Its so amazing they can bring up to 100 kgs stone on their shoulder and they are able to do it for 2-3 times (3 hours to reach the crater and 3 hours back) They have a kind of big bump on their shoulder to the weight bearring. Tough guys. Wish they keep healthy.

Nope. It’s bad enough dealing with touts in town and at borders you shouldn’t have to do it out in nature. Fuck that. There are 10,000 awesome waterfalls on this planet and a million others. I had Java on my mid list too. Someone needs to rebuild Borobudur even bigger and put it near Krabi or Goa. India is planning on building a newer version of Angkor Wat north of Patna, but they’ve had delays so who knows when it will be up. Then all the touts from Agra will go up there.

My wife and I are traveling to Singapore from the US soon. I have a work obligation while there. I will arrive in Singapore on a Saturday at 1 am, and I don’t have any meetings until Wednesday at 10 am. Then we are done in Singapore with work obligations on Friday at 5 pm, and we booked our return flight to depart from Manila on the following Tuesday at 10 am.

So, Please help us decide what to do with our time! We have from 1 am on Saturday to 10 am on Wednesday (basically 4 full days) to do something (Thailand, Malaysia, Bali? WHAT)

then we will do all things Singapore Wednesday morning through Friday evening (having all day Thursday off work)

Then, we will be going to the Philippines Friday evening or night and have all day Saturday, Sunday, and Monday to spend in the Philippines and have to depart Manila on Tuesday at 10 am. Where should we go and what should we do? (I was leaning towards El Nido/San Vicente/Coron/Port Barton?)

Hi, I’m a local but from the capital city Jakarta. Even for locals, traveling to Bromo will be quiet tricky because people in there mostly put higher price than it should be. I’ve been to Bromo twice, I always use this travel agent called @pengenjalantnt on Instagram. Their service doesn’t cost you a lot of money, they’re locals from Malang, they’re friendly, have manners, and most importantly they can be trusted. They will give you tips what to do & not do in Bromo. They will tell you not to get tricked by the raincoat sellers / any seller in there. This is not an ad, I’m telling you based on my previous experiences. Good luck & have fun to others who want to visit Bromo!

I live in one regency with Tumpak Sewu – Lumajang. And that place is so beautiful. You must take a chance to get there if you visit Bromo.
Actually Lumajang has a lot of beautiful places such as B29, bamboos forest, and the highest mountain on Java – Semeru Mountain. I don’t know other beautiful place cz it is too many.

Hey, dude love ur video about east java! yeah, the road heading to Bromo is super tough, but u made it! Amazing, especially from someone who lives from a super good condition road haha.. Anyway, I always go there with my high school friend chasing the sunrise back then! super fun. 6 hours drive from Malang city centre and have a class on Monday. And sorry for the random seller mostly wherever you go, but that’s just how tough living condition in Indonesia cheap labour super low salary. this is more advice for everybody if 50-125$ a day its too expensive for just a car
1st if you want go to malang you can take the bus “damri” from the airport surabaya to “bungurasih” its bus terminal and you can jump bus to malang. its around 10$
2nd after you touch down in malang
you can take “gojek” to your hotel. gojek its uber for motorcycle in indonesia. and you can take gojek to everywhere in the city of malang.
its around 10$
3rd if you want to come to bromo and another tourist destination you can book a travel agent in instagram. just typing “travelbromo” its a lot an option.
its around 15$
or you can rent a car start from malang.

You should probably visit any waterfall in dry season, some waterfall is not safe during rainy season, especially waterfall that you need to hike for around a half hour before, because there could be a flood anytime and you can stuck in there for hours. Not a pleasant experience. But if the weather is fine, then go on.
Also when rainy season the water is mostly become brown and a little mudy.

You damn lucky to get that sunrise in Bromo. Been there twice. The first trip, it’s all so foggy. Pretty lucky on the second one. There’s Ranu Regulo and Ranu Kumbolo inside the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park area. Ranu means Lake. It takes about 5 hours from Bromo to Kumbolo and about 1 hours to Regulo. Around August or September you’ll get the area covered with ice. Something that rarely happen in tropical country like Indonesia.

The Ranu Kumbolo is where the Semeru hikers stop to camp before hike again.

When I went to bromo it wass like 6AM when we arrived there was almost no one, the people that were there didn’t do the hike as there was too much sulfur, I was THE ONLY ONE on top of the volcano running around wering my scarf as a way to protect myself from the sulfur, it was truly something special!

Do Central Java, there are a lot of Hidden Places. The temples are amazing. Goa Jomblang, Goa pindul, there are the many places at Gunung Kidul. Awesome beaches at Jogja that no one knows and talks about (one is Watu lumbung). There are also serene mountains and beautiful bamboo forests. Hang around Magelang as well for awesome nature. There is also Pangandaran (GREEN CANYON!!! Google green canyon, it’s at Pangandatan) nearby and it awesome. There are also places at Solo and others. It’s so nice and undiscovered. You are a good researcher, you can find so many new places here in Central Java

Wow, so crowded! We’ve been in February this year from Malang to Bromo on a dirty bike (17$ rent from Malang) during the day and it was way less people up there! An we didn’t have to pay the entrance fee (~20$ pp). The weather wasn’t so amazing, but it was fine. And we enjoyed a lot!!!!

Have been in East Java for a few months now. Hiring Drivers for 50USD a day is not cheap if you’re traveling For Long. Paying more money does not mean you get better Drivers, sometimes Drivers knowing just how to mark up prices for tourists. There are many public buses available Super cheap and takes equal duration of traveling. All I can say is, you cannot expect decent quality accommodations, safety must be always on a lookout, bridges that doesn’t hold, holes on the streets, black outs while in East Java is very common even in cities like Surabaya. And raining season now means flooding. Traveling in East Java (excluding touristic places like bromo and ijen) is nowhere similar to traveling Bali. You May find yourself paying way more money for not so decent accommodation or paying very little money for very basic accommodation. Toilets at rest stops are usually clean. You May find that people are not as helpful when they can’t communicate with you.

Quick question(s), would you book in advance for these things, like transport and guides, or do it when you get there? Do they speak good enough English or is it going to be a struggle? And finally, I believe the first videos uou put out, you had guides going to those waterfalls(?) However in this video you went alone. Are they walks easy to find and navigate without a guide or would you recommend hiring one for a first time?

great video as always. We should visit Sumatra together, I could show you some amazing places :). I just have to add that you can also travel java by train and bus, which is of course much cheaper than a private van. Same goes for the Bromo, we went there with our scooter and to be more lonely inside the crater just wait a few hours after the sunset, because everybody is heading directly to the crater, but if you wait a little you will be almost alone.

When u mention people in java near the waterfall “harassing you” when they are trying to sell u the poncho . They are just trying to earn money and you should gladly buy it. Because you did use their local land and views to make money. So u get these amazing views that lead to you making money but what do they get nothing. So please respect that. We did Java late 2017 and we got the 10 hours bus from Bali over to Java and then a local bus to Mount Bromo. We traveled from East Java all the way to Borobudur and then flew to Sumatra. We had an incredible time and I would suggest using local transport/trains/ buses etc as it is a much more in depth experience. We were also able to meet some incredible people this way that we just wouldn’t have been able to meet in a private hire car.

Great video! I travelled with my boyfriend earlier this year through East Java (Jakarta – Yogyakarta – Bromo – Ijen) in six days. It was hard, but so worth it! We did it much cheaper with trains (perhaps more hassle than a diver) and even got a couple of locals to give us a ride on the back of their motorbikes from Bromo down to the train station to get to our next spot. Highly recommend visiting East Java before it becomes the next tourist hotspot!

Amazing video, glad you’ve penetrated into the real Indonesia’s nature that’s unexplored by tourists as yet but this is the tip of the iceberg. You should go to other islands in Indonesia and not only Java. Celebes/Sulawesi is another that’s unexplored. Layers and layers of natural spots that are still not easily accessible by foreigners but this video, is breaking the ice already. Great job!
