Our butts are weak.
We have 3 main glute muscles:
1. Glute max – biggest muscle in the body. Responsible for hip extension which we do a lot of in yoga.
2. Glute med – very important stability muscle for the pelvis, knees & lower back.
3. Glute min – helps with stability, abduction on the hip (moving the leg away from the body) and internal rotation.
What does all this really mean? It means your butt can become your superpower, but only if you learn how to use it properly. We need to learn how to engage the muscles properly in yoga to give us a much stronger & more intelligent practice.
