Small wooden statue

My latest acquisition a small wooden statue of a half naked Balinese young man looking at himself in the mirror. In addition to the realistic carving, I also find the posture striking.

Anyone who has been in Indonesia knows that the people there are used to sitting on the floor with their legs folded together. This requires a great flexibility that we as Westerners do not have.

The man only wears a sarong that has slid down so that his bare torso and buttocks are clearly visible. This gives the sculpture a rare homoerotic touch.
